What is NIS 2?

(Network and Information Security Directive)
  • Regulation approved in november 2022, which is
  • approved by the European Parliament and the European Council
  • an improved version of the former EU 2016/1148 NIS Directive
  • to increase cybersecurity stability between competent authorities and the EU

Who is affected by NIS 2?

All organisations that:
  • has more than 50 employees, or
  • the turnover more than 10 000 000 Euro and
  • its activity is included in the sectoral list established by Act XXIII of 2023.

Self-identification,
Appointment of an Information Security Officer

2024. june 30.

The official registration of direct data subjects must be done via a client portal (SZTFH)

Notification of subcontractors involved in IT Operations

Organisation providing the electronic communications service requested (e.g. internet service provider)

2024. october 18.

The protection mechanisms put in place must be applied

Operate an IBIR system in the organisation

Contract with an auditing organisation from a list published by the authority

The first audit should be carried out during the year.

Why is it in your interest to comply?

Non-compliance can result in sanctions, including fines, which vary according to sector:

- High risk: 2% of annual turnover, up to €10 million

- Risky: 1.4% of annual turnover, up to €7 million

NIS 2 will have a significant impact on competition in the market by fundamentally changing cybersecurity standards across the EU. As a result, supply chains will have to transform. Businesses that adapt quickly and comply with the new standards may gain a competitive advantage, while those that do not follow these changes may be at a competitive disadvantage.
